There is nothing more disheartening than sitting in front of the computer staring at a blank page and having nothing to write about for your blog. Trust me, I have been there.
Maintaining post consistency and having constant fresh content on your blog is vital to your success as a blogger. Coming up with new and exciting blog post ideas can be daunting. Let me help.
First things first, get a notebook. You can go old school and get a spiral bound college ruled notebook, or high tech and use the note feature on your tablet or smart phone. Me, I like to live on the wild side. I use both.
Sitting in front of my iPad is a good ol’ fashioned 5-Star 5 subject notebook, and thanks to the Cloud and my love for all things Apple, I can sync my notes from my iPad to email, my MacBook Air, and my smartphone. I even have a website management binder (aka Blog Binder) to keep all things website related in. (I am OCD like that). In my purse you will find a small notepad and pen to write ideas down on when I am on the go, when turning on my iPad or pulling out my cell phone is not an option.
Use Google Analytics For Post Inspiration
A large and untapped post inspiration resource is on your Google Analytics. Check out the search terms visitors to your site used to get to your site and get inspired. On one of my other blogs, I get TONS of hits on that blog from visitors who punched “Brad Pitt” into Google. Needless to say, I mention him quite frequently now. When checking my analytics one day I noticed a large amount of search terms about Silhouette Cameos landing on my other site as well. A lot of the searches were generated from keywords where visitors were looking to compare the Silhouette Cameo with a competitors product. I then wrote a few posts on the subject and generated even more traffic.
Visitor’s Comments
Are you frequently answering questions that were asked in the comments of your blog posts? That is the perfect opportunity to write new posts expanding on the original post and the questions being asked.
Vistor’s Questions On Social Media
Similar to creating new posts based on questions asked in the comments of other posts, you can create new posts based on questions and conversations started on your other social networks. I get a great deal of post inspiration from questions followers ask on Twitter and Facebook.
Pinterest is one or the fastest growing social media networks, and is a great source of post inspiration. Check out what your Pinterest followers are repining and write posts (with pinnable images) about their interests.
Read Other Niche Related Blogs
Spend time reading other niche related blogs every day (and don’t forget to leave quality comment love). Do you see something they have written that you can expand upon? Are there questions being asked in the comments that they are not answering? You would be surprised at all the posts I have written because of comments on other blogs.
The News
Depending on the niche of your blog, you can get post inspiration on what you read and/or watch on the news. New channels tend to follow subjects that are trending, so writing posts about popular news items is a sure fire way to get some of that trending traffic to your blog.
Google Alerts
I have already written about using Google Alerts, and I can not stress enough how important Google Alerts are to post inspiration. Enter search terms related to the niche of your blog and watch as your inbox fills with blog post opportunities.
Forums
I started some of my blogs based on the forums I was a member of, and I get loads of post inspiration from forum posts. Members ask questions in the forum and I get inspired to write an entire blog post about their questions. Forums can also be a great source of traffic for your blog, just by simply putting a link to your blog in your forum signature if the forum allows it.
